If you are shopping for a cheap Samsung smartphone, then the Samsung Galaxy M10 and the M20 are likely to be what you will still come across in 2020. If this is the case, then you should already have found out that the Samsung Galaxy M20 offers better value for money though it will cost you slightly more. This is the official review of the Galaxy M20. As per our tradition at SmartWorld Kenya, we will dish out the 5 cool features as we also tell you about the drawbacks.
To start us off, we will address the elephant in the room, so to speak. By this I am talking of the unique 5, 000mAh battery that Samsung has fixed onto this budget phone. It is interesting that a phone of its size would have more weight than other larger and more expensive phones like the Samsung Galaxy A71. It weighs in at 186g but there is an obvious reason for it. In case you are the kind of person who prefers to get more than a whole day’s use out of your phone before needing to recharge, then the Galaxy M20 is what you should go for without hesitation. In addition to the large battery, it also comes with a high grade 15W charger that will ensure a full charge three times faster than other phones in its class. Now that is a great sweetener to throw into what was an "OK" deal!
The second outstanding feature you should get excited about on with this phone is the dual camera set up at the back. This is composed of a 13 -megapixel and 5-megapixel combination that will give you a regular and ultra- wide-angle shooting lenses respectively. The main camera and 8- megapixel camera setup are also able to take 1080p video for your memorable moments.
The processor contained in this phone is quite good yet it does not put a lot of demands on the power stored on the phone. Here we are talking about an Exynos 7904 (14nm) chipset: octa-core CPU (2x1.8GHz Cortex-A73 + 6x1.6GHz Cortex-A53); and a Mali-G71 MP2 Graphics Processing Unit. The Galaxy M20 comes with two memory versions, the base 3GB/ 32GB one and the 4GB/ 64GB both of which are great but as far as memory goes, the more you have the better you are served.
The fourth awesome factor on this phone is the large 6.3-inch HD+ screen display which adds 409ppi density for extra crispiness. This is packed in a compact body with 156.4 x 74.5 x 8.8 mm dimensions. You will however need to include a screen protector for extra caution seeing as this is no Corning Gorilla Glass.
Fifth on our list is that the Samsung Galaxy M20 is an all rounder in terms of what it offers, balancing price and its capability. For a phone that retails at less than Sh. 17, 000 at SmartWorld Kenya, it is a great value pack for a budget phone. Remember, you also get a back- end fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm audio jack, a dedicated micro-SD card slot and twin- sim capability.
On the drawbacks, it is one of those phones that inexplicably comes with Android 8.1 (Oreo) as the operating system instead of the already available Android 9.0 (Pie). The saving grace however is that it is upgradable to Android 10, which should ease a little of the anxiety there may be. Another notable drawback is that it has a plastic rear and a plastic edge which make it lose a bit of the elegance we’ve seen in the other reviews done at SmartWorld Kenya.
